Y todas las noches bajo la vía láctea parecen eternas

Hola, soy Rick. I'm 24 years old. I'm from Puerto Rico. I probably totally like you.

The Features - The Idea Of Growing Old

We can talk all night
We can talk all day
We can play charades when there is nothing to say
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

I can make you angry, you can make me smile
We can make origami with the kids for a while
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

Now, it won’t be long
No, it won’t be long
You turn me on to the idea of growing old
Turn me on to the idea of growing old

We can lay around and count the number of times
I’ve acted foolish and you’ve rolled your eyes
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

You in your kerchief and me in my cap
We can settle down for an afternoon nap
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

Now, it won’t be long
No, it won’t be long
You turn me on to the idea of growing old
Turn me on to the idea of growing old
Turn me on to the idea of growing old
Turn me on to the idea of growing old

You turn me on to the idea of growing old
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

Before we got together, Maria once asked me what my biggest fear was. I told her that I, very foolishly, feared the thought of growing old. And this was true. Back then I believed in this so intensely. I really could not see myself past the age of 30 or so. I could not, for the life of me, picture myself as an old man. I wish I could tell you what the basis of this fear was, but I really don’t know. One of those stupid, irrational things.

Maria and I were already a couple when I stumbled upon this band and this song, a couple of weeks before Valentine’s Day back in 2008. The song struck such a chord with me because it illustrated exactly how I felt when I was with her. With Maria I, very naïvely, and thus very much myself, was all right with this idea of growing old; I was all right with the idea of growing old and spending the rest of my life with her.

Love, right?

I’m no longer afraid of growing old, but I still think this song represents, in its most purest, uncluttered form, what it means to be in love and in a relationship. I think it always will. For me at least.

Love and friendship don’t need a silly little holiday. Love and friendship should be cherished and celebrated every single day, in some form or another. Still though, I put this up as a cheers to you all who do celebrate such things. Hope you and your significant other (or, you know, others) have a good one.
